Carrick Lodge Motel: What we believe about 'sustainability'
It is a holistic concept that brings together the Social, Economic and Environmental aspects of our lives.
What it means to the United Nations.
Sustainable consumption is:
- About consuming differently
- About consuming efficiently
- About having an improved quality of life
- Not about guilt
What it means to us:
Sustainability is a journey, not a destination - because we will need the ability to adapt our practice as the challenges present themselves.
For us, it is concerned with fairness and human values as well as ecology. Sustainable practice is a way of living that considers and is aware of the 'longer term'
The decisions of today should not create more damage to the natural systems on which future generations will depend. It is the systemizing of the ideal that we might leave the planet in no worse shape than when we first found it.

What are we currently doing at Carrick Lodge
In the past year we have continued to replace electric bulbs and appliances with low energy enviro-friendly bulbs whilst recognizing the need of guests to be able to read under strong light.
Shower heads have been replaced with adjustable jets to provide stronger concentrated flow whilst conserving water.
Shampoo and conditioner bottles have been changed to reflect less packaging and far fewer disposals of plastic containers.
Irrigation of grounds in the summer has been limited by a timer to deliver useful amounts of moisture to grass and gardens without wastage.
Gas and Electricity usage is monitored to encourage efficiencies in heating, lighting and laundry operations.
We therefore invite you to join us in promoting Sustainable Practices in all that we do, particularly in our business. We don't claim to exhibit "Best" practice but we do have a desire to respond to concerns and make positive change where possible. Your help in this is not only desirable - but we also depend on it.
