Where hospitality and a passion for Central Otago meet
Carrick Lodge Motel
ou might think that a background in Education was not necessarily a good pre-cursor to the Motel Industry - but the experience and ride have been exciting.
After 30 years teaching in various rural and urban parts of New Zealand, as well as four years in the U.K. Rob and Joan have chosen to develop some roots in Central Otago. They have always believed that 'learning' is a life-long experience and so they put their skills and interests into the hospitality industry.
Central Otago has always held a fascination for them both. From their earliest memories of the gorges and ravines, the pioneering ambience of the early gold rush days, to the thunderous roar of the mighty Clutha and Kawarau Rivers and the rapturous splendor of the Mountain peaks and tor studded landscapes. This area excites the passions of history and environment.
Tramping the hills and valleys of Central Otago, cycling through the area on the old BSA 3 speed in the 1960s was an adventure which fueled a love of this region - romantic perhaps - yet thoroughly satisfying.
The Central Otago landscape never fails to reward the climb to the top of the next hill. Explore wide open spaces of contentment and plunging ravines of gorge and crevasse. Experience the explosive heat of the earth in summer and the crispness of the snow capped mountains in winter. Uncompromising in its beauty.
Central Otago never fails to inspire.
